Halloween

About two weeks ago I had a thought, don't know what triggered it, but I remembered that there's a little old cemetery not far from my house that I had wanted to check out ages ago but I had completely forgotten about.  Again don't know what made me think of it but I decided what better time to go check out an old cemetery then on Halloween!!  So that's where I got off to this morning!!  There were stones going back to the late 1700's, and like all old graveyards lots of the stones were falling over, being propped up by other stones, some were so old and worn they couldn't be read, others had flags for veterans from wars of the 1800's.  There's something about this silent history that intrigues me ...

Happy Haunting!!

What I Love About New England

There are many things about living in New England that I enjoy, like the hills and scenic back roads, or how you can drive for two hours and hit about five different states, and to top it off we have a pretty good football team!!  But what really makes living in New England fun is how the weather likes to keep everyone on their toes!! Take these two pictures for example:

Both of these pictures are of me (sort of) taken in the same swing in my backyard, and they were taken roughly 26 hours apart!!  Leave it to New England to have winter in October!!

Another Day At The Orchard

Fall has finally decided to come to New England and I got to spend another day at the apple orchard, but this time was a little different from the last time!! For starters the temperture was in the 60's instead of the 80's this time so it actually felt like fall, and I was with some great friends and a crew of kids :)  Here's a peek at a handful of pics from the afternoon!!

Vermont!!

I guess I'm a little spoiled in that almost every year I get to go up to Vermont to visit family and just enjoy the mountains and trees and the beautiful sights.  This year has been flying by and I was a littled bummed that I hadn't been able to make the trip yet this year and with competitive season coming up at the gym, it wasn't looking like I was going to be able to make it  :(  But I got really lucky!!  I got in late after going to see the pumpkins at the zoo and discovered my parents were headed up to VT early the next morning and invited me to tag along!!  So with camera in tow, I was off to one of my favorite places!!

On the way we stopped by the Bridge of Flowers in Shelburne MA.  I had never been before and it was really pretty.  There were quite a few flowers still in bloom and their colors were so vibrant!
Across from where the bridge is we could see a waterfall of some sort so we went to investigate and found it was a glacial pot hole.  If you want to see something really surreal, jump on Youtube and look up these sights during hurricane Irene.  I couldn't believe it was the same place!! The water was up to the underside of the bridge and over at the pot hole, water was spashing up on the walkway where I was standing to take pictures!!

Next stop was Vermont!!  We stopped in Brattleboro at the visitors center which we stop at almost every year when we head north.  It was so nice to stop and kick back and relax . . . ahh, I love it up there!!
But we didn't stop for long, next stop was the Quechee Gorge.  Again another fun place I had never been.  There were trails to hike around the gorge but parts were closed because of the flooding that occured after Irene (again check out Youtube it's unreal!!)
We walked parts of the trail that were opened, we went down by the dam and then went up on the bridge to get a great view looking down at the water, pretty amazing!!
A few more pics can be found at the album here:

So greatful I got to go up to Vermont even if it was just for a day!!

Pumpkins At The Zoo

Ok, so it's been forever since I've been able to go to the zoo and now I get to go twice in about a months time!!  The only difference was that tonight when I went I didn't get to see any animals.  Instead I went on the pumpkin trail.  There were hundreds of carved pumpkins, some were your usual jack-o-lanterns and there were others that were so intricate and really quite amazing!!  I was able to get some good shots but none really captured just how many pumpkins there are so I would recommend going and checking it out if you get the chance, it's going on until Halloween!!  But in case you can't make it to see it yourself here's a few of the pictures, click on the link at the end to see the rest  :)

The first part of the walk the theme was fairy tales and then it was a walk around the world, to the pumpkins were carved showing different land marks and people from around the world
Love Da Vinci and his Vitruvian Man is one of my favorites so this was one of my favorite ones  (plus it was part of the Italian section)
I will get to go there someday!!   :)
Christmas is coming!!  It was even snowing in this North Pole area  :)
 Can't wait to go back!!
Had to take a picture of this one, they had a section towards the end carved with all sorts of current icons including angry birds, sponge bob, and Justin Bieber
You really have to go to see this part!!  It's really amazing the size and number of pumpkins in the end section, they were really cool!!
Like I said check it out if you can, totally worth it!!

Cheers  :)

Fall Day

Despite it being 80-something degrees outside today, I had a lovely fall day  :)  First we went apple picking then we went to a corn maze, it sure feels like fall even if mother nature is a little off again!!

Happy fall!!
